Massive bridge beams moved to Manenberg

On Monday, 17 March 2025, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, together with the project team visited the site at NY27 and Klipfontein Road where the new Duinefontein Bridge is being built. Enormous pre-cast beams, produced by a local company for the new bridge, were transported via abnormal road vehicles to the intersection of Duinefontein and Govan Mbeki Roads in Manenberg. This operation took four days.
Commuters to note traffic delays at Govan Mbeki Road and Jan Smuts Drive intersection in Lansdowne

The construction of Cape Town’s first Sky Circle will commence later this month. To enable the construction work, the signalised intersection at Govan Mbeki Road (M9) and Jan Smuts Drive (M17) in Lansdowne will be converted into a temporary traffic circle on the weekend of 15 March 2025. A huge crane will be installed in the middle of the traffic circle. Road users are advised to avoid this intersection over this weekend as there will be lane closures and traffic delays.
MyCiTi Construction: Major Roadworks Along AZ Berman Drive

City to commence with MyCiTi infrastructure construction in Khayelitsha

The City of Cape Town is upping its pace this year with multiple ongoing MyCiTi infrastructure projects across the metro-south east. Residents and road users in Khayelitsha should please note that construction is coming their way in March 2025. The work is in preparation for the roll-out of the next phase of the MyCiTi bus service to link commuters from Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain with Wynberg and Claremont. The project team will be hard at work to deliver the bus lanes and other infrastructure needed.
New permanent MyCiTi stops to be constructed across the City

The City of Cape Town will be converting 77 temporary MyCiTi bus stops at locations in Atlantis, Century City, Melkbosstrand, Blaauwbergstrand, Milnerton, Hout Bay, Mitchells Plain, Summer Greens, Sunningdale and Woodstock into permanent bus stops

Transport and Installation of Pre-Cast Concrete Beams for Elevated MyCiTi Bus Overpass on Govan Mbeki and Duinefontein Road Intersection

The City of Cape Town is committed to enhancing the city’s public transport infrastructure through the construction of a new elevated bi-directional MyCiTi bus overpass on Govan Mbeki Road, spanning the Duinefontein intersection. To facilitate this important project, a series of large, pre-cast concrete beams will be transported and installed on Friday 14 March 2025, necessitating temporary traffic adjustments.
Rebuild of Freedom Station

Work is set to start in March with rebuilding Freedom station, formerly Phoenix, along Omuramba Road in the Joe Slovo area. The site will be cordoned off until construction is complete in early 2026.

MyCiTi Route 214 Realignment & New Stops PPP

Five new MyCiTi stops are proposed as part of the re-alignment of routes 214a and 214e inTable View in order to provide a more direct service with reduced travel times for passengers. Routes 214a and 214e will be re-aligned to operate in both directions along Dartford Drive and Walworth Road. As a result, both routes will no longer serve the Morningfield and Dartford stops on Parklands Main Road.
