City advises road users of urgent repairs to Stanhope bridge

The City regrets to inform road users that the Stanhope bridge in Claremont will only have one lane in each direction available to traffic until further notice. The lane reduction is an emergency intervention after the existing retaining wall on the southeast quadrant of the Stanhope bridge failed on 26 January 2026.

MyCiTi moves over to modern bus validators

Attention all MyCiTi commuters: As from 2 December 2025, the City will start replacing the validators in its buses and at the stations. These devices will be able to support modern and convenient payment methods in future. The replacements will be done in phases and should be complete by the end of January 2026 if all goes as planned.
MyCiTi service expansion making progress with widening of section of Wetton Road complete

The widening of Wetton Road (M9) in Wynberg from the intersection with Rosmead Avenue to the M5 bridge has been completed. There are currently multiple ongoing construction projects in Claremont, Wynberg, Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha to provide the necessary infrastructure for the expansion of the MyCiTi service. Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, visited the Wetton Road site earlier this week to see the work and congratulate the team for completing the project on time.
