City obtains interim interdict against extortionists hell-bent on derailing MyCiTi project in Philippi

The City welcomes the Western Cape High Court’s decision earlier today to reinstitute the interim interdict against extortionists and others who are hell-bent on derailing the MyCiTi construction project along Govan Mbeki Road in Philippi. The interdict is effective until 21 April 2026 when the matter will be argued before the court. Any person threatening officials and contractors at the site, or attempting to disrupt or delay the work will be arrested.
Roadworks along Wetton Road median to commence in July

The public is advised of planned roadworks in the median of Wetton Road, at the intersection giving access to the Racecourse in Wynberg. The roadworks will take place from Rosmead Avenue to the foot of the Wetton Road/M5 bridge. The project will commence mid-July and continue for a month, weather permitting.
MyCiTi bus drivers take part in smart driver training

The City’s Spatial Planning and Environment Directorate, Environmental Management Department, Urban Mobility Directorate, Public Transport Operations Department and two Vehicle Operating Companies (VOC) embarked on Smart Driver training for 150 MyCiTi bus drivers. Yesterday, all the trained drivers received their Smart Driver competency certificates at the Observatory bus depot.

A sign of things to come for Mitchells Plain commuters

The project along AZ Berman Drive where the City is implementing new infrastructure for the MyCiTi bus service is 31% complete. The Urban Mobility Directorate has installed two signboards with artist impressions of what the end product will look like by January 2027, when the project is due for completion. Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, visited the site in Mitchells Plain earlier today, to see how these signboards can aid in inspiring and informing commuters.
Stop changes in Mitchells Plain

Passengers in Mitchells Plain are advised of changes to the Sesame, Highlands and Marguerite stops along AZ Berman Drive with effect from Tuesday 27 May 2025, in order to accommodate the next phase of roadworks underway.
Construction of permanent stops starts in Atlantis
