MyCiTi Phase 2A construction: urgent temporary road closure along Govan Mbeki Road from Wetton circle

Cape Town completes major MyCiTi bus depots for new routes from Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain

The City of Cape Town has completed the construction of two new MyCiTi bus depots on the corner of Spine Road and Mew Way between Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain. These R430 m depots will house the bus fleet for the new route expansion linking Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain and other communities across the metro-south east with Claremont and Wynberg, South Africa’s biggest metro-led public transport project. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis viewed the completed depots on 23 October, together with Councillor Rob Quintas, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility.

City advises of temporary road closure along Govan Mbeki Road

The City of Cape Town is continuing with the construction of new and upgraded transport infrastructure along Govan Mbeki Road. A lane closure is planned from Thursday, 30 October 2025 to accommodate road rehabilitation works on Govan Mbeki Road, between the Duinefontein Bridge and the intersections with Link Road. The traffic changes are expected to remain in place for approximately 13 months.

Vandalism targeting MyCiTi poses great danger to commuters and their livelihoods

The City of Cape Town regrets the challenges currently being experienced by our MyCiTi commuters, particularly on the N2 Express routes from Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain to the Civic Centre. A primary cause of disruption is persistent vandalism. In the last six months alone, 26 buses on this route have been damaged by stone-throwing, wire tampering, and damaging of doors. A staggering 56% of our bus fleet pulled out of circulation for repairs have been maliciously vandalised through acts of anti-social behaviour by members of the very communities who rely on the service, heavily impacting fellow commuters.

Residents to comment on proposed MyCiTi kerbside stops in Khayelitsha and Philippi

The City is calling on residents in Khayelitsha and Philippi to submit their comments on several proposed kerbside stop locations planned for the future routes that form part of the MyCiTi Phase 2A expansion of services in the Khayelitsha and Philippi areas.  The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate advises the public of the temporary lane and full road closures taking place along Racecourse Road in the Lansdowne and Kenwyn area. Several temporary road closures are scheduled in the coming months to accommodate the ongoing MyCiTi infrastructure developments that need to take place in these areas.
