W2 Turf Hall Road, Lansdowne

Area affected: Lansdowne

 Start date: March 2024

Planned end date: 2026

About W2

The City of Cape Town will start construction in the Lansdowne area in March 2024 in preparation for the next phase of the MyCiTi service.

This will affect Turfhall Road, between the M5 interchange and the intersection of Castor and Benona Roads.

Phase 2A of MyCiTi will provide quality, safe and direct public transport to more than 30 communities linking Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain, Wynberg and Claremont.

Commuters will enjoy high frequency, direct services on dedicated lanes, with stations to access and transfer between routes. Residents will also benefit from intersection upgrades, safer cycling and walking lanes, street lighting and landscaping improvements.

A public information day was held on Wednesday 28 February 2024 from 15:00 to 19:00 at the Kenwyn Primary School Hall.

How construction will impact you

Construction is planned in phases and roadworks will be confined to the hours from 09:00 - 15:00 on weekdays to avoid peak traffic times and limit disruptions. In extreme circumstances, work may be required outside these hours but residents will be notified in advance.

Traffic will be accommodated using temporary detours and walkways for pedestrians while access to properties will be maintained. Despite these measures, the planned work will still impact traffic and result in delays and motorists are urged to consider public transport, ride-sharing and lift club options.

The City realises the inconvenience involved and appreciates the patience of everyone affected.

Job Opportunities

There will be some opportunities for local labour and to source goods and services from local subcontractors registered at the local subcouncil. Interested residents should confirm that they are registered on the City’s Jobseeker Database at their local subcouncil or look out for new mobile registration drives to register before work starts.
