Makhaza Station & Bus Facility
Area affected: Makhaza/ Chris Hani station
Start date: May 2025
Planned end date: December 2026
What's Planned
A brand-new public transport interchange serving future MyCiTi routes is planned for construction off Walter Sisulu Road in Makhaza, Khayelitsha.
This modern facility will accommodate MyCiTi and Golden Arrow buses during peak morning and evening hours, offering the Makhaza community dignified public transportation services including:
- Ablution facilities
- Overhead canopy structures
- Bus shelters
- A ticket office
- Facility landscaping
- Universal access
Once the MyCiTi Phase 2A project is complete, residents will benefit from seamless connections between Khayelitsha, Claremont, and Wynberg.
The Makhaza Public Transport Interchange is set to be fully operational by December 2026, accommodating 8 MyCiTi buses and 11 Golden Arrow buses. It will consist of a fenced parking area for the buses as well as a security kiosk. It will also include public ablutions, a ticket office and refuse yard.
Enabling works are currently underway on the site, and we want to reassure the community that construction activities will not affect access to the neighbouring Enkanini area.
