What's planned
Construction is about to commence along Govan Mbeki and Japhta K Masemola Roads in Khayelitsha in preparation for Phase 2A of MyCiTi.
MyCiTi is central to the City’s vision to enhance public transport for residents, creating a modern, efficient transport system that benefits residents for years to come. Work on Phase 2A is underway through multiple, smaller roadwork projects across the planned network, which will eventually connect Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha with Claremont and Wynberg.
Construction is scheduled from March 2025 to November 2027 along the M9 Govan Mbeki/Japhta K Masemola Road, stretching from just south of the R300 Bridge to Oliver Tambo Community Hall.
- Upgrade of 3.90 km of Japhta Masemola Road, including 400m of dedicated bi-directional MyCiTi bus lanes at the Nolungile Closed (RAMS).
- Construction of MyCiTi Nolungile closed median station.
- Widening of the Stormwater culvert at Solomon Tshuku.
- Construction of three MyCiTi Kerbside open stops in each direction at Morning Star, the intersection of Capital Road and Maphongwana Road and east of the Mew Way intersection with Govan Mbeki.
- Upgrade a total of 420m on both sides of Swartklip / Old Faure Roads
- Upgrade of 230m of Mew Way north of Japhta 420Masemola Road
- Non-motorised transport infrastructure with a Class 3 cycle facility on Govan Mbeki east and west bound.
- Signage, street lighting, electrical works, landscaping, drainage, technology infrastructure, ducting and road-markings and traffic signals.
