The MyCiTi Phase 2A construction project work that is currently under way requires the City to convert the four-way signalised intersection at Duinefontein Road and Govan Mbeki Road into a temporary single-lane traffic circle on Saturday, 30 August 2025. This temporary circle will be in place for the next 12 months.

To complete the conversion to the temporary traffic circle, the intersection will be closed from 14:00 on Saturday, 23 August until 06:00 on Sunday, 24 August 2025.

Road users must please take note of the following:

  • Lane closures are planned during this time to allow preparations for the conversion
  • As of Sunday, 23 August 2025, road users will be entering the intersection through a temporary traffic circle

‘The roadworks form part of the roll-out of the second phase of the MyCiTi bus service to connect commuters from Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain, and various other communities across the metro-south east with Claremont and Wynberg. Once this temporary traffic circle is in place, I ask that road users please approach it with caution as we allow time for drivers to familiarise themselves with it. We appreciate the patience and understanding from commuters while these major works are underway and encourage them to always keep in mind the safe, affordable and reliable MyCiTi bus service that is coming their way, the public transport option they have been waiting for to keep Captonians moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

What to Expect:

  • Detour signage will be clearly displayed to guide motorists
  • Advance warning signage will be in place, informing road users that there is a traffic circle ahead
  • Signage will be installed to ensure the safety of all road users
  • Law enforcement officers and traffic officials will be on site to assist and help ensure road safety compliance
  • Motorists are advised to allow for extra travel time and plan alternative routes where possible
