The City of Cape Town is continuing with transport infrastructure upgrades on AZ Berman. Several intersections will be temporarily closed and traffic will be temporarily shifted to allow construction to continue safely in preparation for the next phase of MyCiTi bus services.

These changes are planned from 26 May 2025 for approximately six weeks, but may be affected by weather or other unforeseen delays.

Upcoming road and intersection closures:

  • Petunia Street – Closed at intersection with AZ Berman Drive. Detour via Marguerite Road.
  • Morgenster Road – Closed at intersection with AZ Berman Drive. Detour via Merrydale Avenue to Highlands Drive or via Merrydale to Wespoort Road.
  • Kerrem Street – The three outbound lanes from Promenade Mall will be closed to traffic. The two inbound lanes will be used to accommodate vehi¬cles traveling in both directions.

Upcoming traffic flow changes

  • The intersections at Bottlebrush, Highlands, and Marguerite Roads will be re-opened to traffic.
  • A traffic shift will take place along AZ Berman Drive, between Petunia Street and Katjiepiering Street.
  • Traffic will move from the current southbound lane (towards Khayelitsha) to the completed northbound lane (towards Cape Town).
  • Traffic will be accommodated in both directions, with one lane in each direction, separated by cones and road markings.

All homes, businesses, and public facilities will remain accessible throughout the construction period. Traffic signage will guide road users through the area.

Motorists should plan ahead and allow for extra travel time.
