Comment on proposed MyCiTi bus stops in Wynberg
The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate is making great progress with the infrastructure projects that form part of the expansion of the MyCiTi service to the metro-south east. Once operational, the service will connect commuters from Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha with Wynberg and Claremont. The City now calls on residents to comment on the proposed locations for the MyCiTi bus stops in the Wynberg area.
By the second half of next year, if all goes as planned, commuters from Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha will be able to board the MyCiTi buses that will operate between their neighbourhoods and Wynberg and Claremont.
‘The roll-out of the second phase of the MyCiTi bus service is making great progress and we are on track to have the first buses operating in the latter part of 2027. Last week, I visited the Sky Circle project in Lansdowne where we are busy casting the first red bus lanes along Govan Mbeki Road. And now, this week, we are calling on the public to comment on the locations of the bus stops in the Wynberg area,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The City is proposing 12 MyCiTi bus stops and embayments in the Wynberg area for the MyCiTi buses that will operate in mixed traffic between the Sky Circle in Lansdowne and the Wynberg public transport interchange. These will support the operating of the buses while the construction of the trunk route, which includes dedicated red bus lanes, continues.
The embayments are needed at each one of the proposed stops so that the buses can safely pick up and drop off passengers without delaying traffic flow for other road users.
The proposed bus stop locations are as follows:
- • Brisbane 1 and Brisbane 2 – two stops along Brisbane Road, with the closest intersection being Perth Road
- Barnstaple 1 and Barnstaple 2 – two stops along Broad Road, with the closest intersection being Barnstaple Road
- Rosmead 1 and Rosmead 2 – two stops along Wetton Road, with the closest intersection being Rosmead Avenue
- Monton 1 and Monton 2 – two stops along Wetton Road, with the closest intersection being Monton Road
- Plantation 1 and Plantation 2 – two stops along Wetton Road, with the closest intersection being Plantation Road
- Wetton Circle 1 and Wetton Circle 2 – two stops along Wetton Road, with the closest intersection being Lansdowne/Old Strandfontein roads
