The City of Cape Town is continuing with the construction of new and upgraded transport infrastructure along Govan Mbeki Road. A lane closure is planned from Thursday, 30 October 2025 to accommodate road rehabilitation works on Govan Mbeki Road, between the Duinefontein Bridge and the intersections with Link Road. The traffic changes are expected to remain in place for approximately 13 months.

Residents and all road users are to take note of the following traffic changes to be implemented:

  • Traffic will be diverted at the Duinefontein Bridge to drive on the westbound lane (towards Manenberg) while construction is under way on the eastbound lane (towards the R300)
  • Only one lane in each direction along Govan Mbeki will be open to accommodate traffic

We are appealing to all the residents and road users who travel in this area to please be patient with this important MyCiTi Phase 2A construction work that needs to take place. The works will regrettably add to congestion, but we ask that you always keep in mind the safe, affordable and reliable MyCiTi bus service that is coming your way, the public transport option we have all been waiting for along this corridor. We will ensure that clear traffic signage is installed to guide road users through the area, but ask that road users please plan for longer journey times, if possible,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
