Proposed permanent road closures and bus stop locations in Wynberg
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate intends the permanent full or partial closure of certain roads to vehicular traffic in Wynberg.
This is in order to accommodate the Wynberg road couplet, which will use Brodie and Main Roads to create a set of parallel one-way streets that doubles the road capacity for general traffic, caters for future MyCiTi services and helps revitalise the Wynberg central business district.
The road couplet will be configured by converting the section of Main Road (M4) between Riverstone Road (M152) and Kemms Road into a one-way, two-lane carriageway serving traffic in a southerly direction, toward Plumstead. A new one-way, northbound two-lane road will be built for traffic in the opposite direction by extending Brodie Road and reconfiguring Glaren Road and Tenby Road.
Council previously approved the road couplet scheme (2002) as well as the concept design of trunk routes for Phase 2A of MyCiTi’s bus service to provide safe, quality, rapid and direct public transport linking Wynberg with Mitchells Plain, Khayelitsha and Claremont (2016 and 2019).
As part of detailed design work underway, the public are invited to attend a public information day and comment on road closures needed to accommodate the road couplet, as well as the proposed location for future MyCiTi bus stops in the vicinity.
Construction is expected to commence in the next two to three years.

In terms of section 17 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000, the public and interested and affected parties may submit comments, recommendations or input to the municipality from 20 March until 5 May 2023 regarding the proposed road closures and bus stop locations listed below.
Owners of properties abutting the affected street or portion thereof may submit their objections with a detailed motivation.
