The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate can confirm that the MyCiTi buses are still servicing the Killarney station, despite the extensive damage caused during a fire that occurred on Monday morning, 27 July 2026. The City is closely monitoring the situation and will implement a shuttle service, should the need arise.

The City has conducted an assessment of the operations, and can confirm that passengers are able to safely embark and disembark at the entrance of the Killarney station along Potsdam Road. The red bus lanes have been cleared and all debris removed.

‘I’ve been informed that MyCiTi staff are assisting commuters and that we will monitor the operations in the coming days. If needed, we will consider implementing a shuttle service to take commuters to the Potsdam station, but for now commuters can continue as per normal. I’m very relieved because we want to minimise any disruptions as far as possible.

‘We understand how vital this route is for many commuters, and we are doing everything in our power to keep Cape Town moving. We thank commuters for their patience and understanding,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The City is in the process of assessing the extent of the damage and plans for repairs. The cause of the fire that also destroyed an 18-metre bus, is being investigated.
