A bus staging facility is planned for construction in Makhaza, Khayelitsha. The public are invited to comment on the concept design and to attend an information day for more details.

The new Makhaza Bus Facility will be located on City-owned land along Ngwamza Street, opposite the Chris Hani rail station.

It will be used to accommodate buses between the morning and evening peak periods for Golden Arrow Bus Services (GABS) and future MyCiTi bus services.

The concept design for the facility involves a fenced area with parking space for buses, a bus inspection area, as well as offices with a boardroom for bus operating companies. The plan also proposes stop locations, enabling commuters to easily transfer between rail and road-based public transport services.

A new drop-and-go embayment along Walter Sisulu Road will link to a new stairway and ramp providing pedestrian access between minibus taxi services on Walter Sisulu Avenue, bus services at the new facility and the rail station, with demarcated bays nearby for informal trading opportunities.
