The 2020 festive season is here and the City of Cape Town is calling on all residents to look after themselves and fellow commuters while travelling. Please wear a mask at all times, sanitise or wash your hands often, and keep a safe distance from other travellers. Although this season will look very different to what we know, the MyCiTi service schedules will be adapted to suit the needs of residents and visitors.

‘The MyCiTi festive season schedule and routes have been arranged to accommodate the needs of our passengers over this period. I cannot stress enough how important it is for all commuters to always wear a mask when in public, to maintain a safe distance from other commuters, and to stay home when you are feeling sick. Please remember to wash your hands often, and to avoid touching surfaces and your face.

‘We can only limit the spread of COVID-19 by working together and practicing these golden rules. We ask that everyone take responsibility for their own health and safety during this time, and to also be aware of the impact our actions have on our loved ones, and communities. By continuing to take all the necessary precautions, we can win the battle against the resurgence of the pandemic in the metro.

‘I believe if residents recommit themselves to being extra cautious while using public transport and accessing public facilities, they can curb the spread of the virus, and still travel to where they need to be with peace of mind,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase.

There will be later trips on MyCiTi buses to Canal Walk between 15 and 24 December 2020 and to the V&A Waterfront between 16 and 24 December 2020.

Many residents may still work throughout the festive season, and the later trips will assist those who need to access retail stores after work hours. The last trip on the Canal Walk routes will be around 22:00 for those ten days. The last trip from the Waterfront to Parklands and Table View will be at 22:30.

More buses will be allocated along the 106 and 107 Camps Bay routes, operating every 18 minutes from 10:00 until the end of the day on 26 December; 1 January and 2 January 2021.

Residents from Atlantis and surrounding areas can look forward to the special holiday service between Atlantis and Silverstroomstrand again. Route 247 will operate every day from 26 December until 3 January 2021. Buses will depart at 09:00 and 13:00 from the Atlantis station, and at 09:30, 13:30 and 18:00 from Silwerstroomstrand.

Given the Alert Level 1 curfew which is currently effective from midnight to 04:00 in the morning, the MyCiTi service will not operate an extended service on New Year’s Eve.

Commuters are advised to please check the schedules closer to the days they want to use the service. Should the curfew change, the MyCiTi operating hours may be amended accordingly.

Those residents who are working through the holiday period are advised to familiarise themselves with the timetable changes. Services will be reduced on some routes on weekdays due to fewer people travelling to work.
