The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate is pleased to announce that the construction of the new MyCiTi bus stations in Hanover Park and Mitchells Plain is set to commence in the first week of September 2026, if all goes as planned. This project forms part of the MyCiTi bus service expansion that will connect Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha with Claremont and Wynberg.

‘We are now reaching exciting milestones of our MyCiTi Phase 2A project where residents will finally be able to see the infrastructure materialise and have a better idea of what to expect. The new public transport infrastructure and routes are definitely worth looking forward to. The construction of the new MyCiTi bus stations in Hanover Park and Mitchells Plain will commence early in September. We look forward to sharing the details of these projects with residents before the works commence at the various information sessions that we will be hosting over the next two weeks. These beautiful stations are easily accessible and located at central locations in Hanover Park and Mitchells Plain.

‘We are bringing the MyCiTi bus service to Hanover Park and extending its footprint in Mitchells Plain as part of our commitment to giving more Capetonians access to safe and reliable public transport. We need to keep Cape Town moving by improving accessibility, safety and comfort for commuters, something these new stations will definitely be offering residents on their daily commute,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The MyCiTi Phase 2A project is currently being implemented along the Lansdowne-Wetton Corridor, extending from Claremont and Wynberg in the west to Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain in the east. A network of median bus stations is therefore required along the planned main routes to facilitate efficient passenger boarding and alighting.

Sesame Station, Hanover Park Station, and the existing Mitchells Plain station that is to be expanded, form part of the ten stations of the project. If all goes as planned, these bus stations should be complete by July 2027.
