The MyCiTi myconnect card has been nominated for a MasterCard Transport Ticketing Award, in the ‘Best Bank-Card Ticketing Scheme’ category.

The winner will be announced during the MasterCard Transport Ticketing Awards ceremony, on 27 January 2014, at the Transport Ticket 2014 Conference and Expo in London.

The conference will bring together the world’s experts in global innovation, transport ticketing, and fare collection.

Members of the public who would like to cast their votes in support of the MyCiTi myconnect card can do so here, however only votes registered to a valid company e-mail address with be counted, i.e votes from personal e-mail addresses will not be counted.

Public voting closes at 16:00 GMT on Friday, 20 December 2013. “We are overjoyed at this nomination, as world leaders in the field of transport ticketing acknowledge that the MyCiTi bus service is an efficient and world-class service," says Mayoral Committee Member for Transport for Cape Town, Councillor Brett Herron.

“There is still a lot of work to be done, but this nomination shows that we are on the right track. The myconnect card makes it possible for passengers to budget for their travel expenses and use a single, cashless card system to pay for their journey.

"Our goal is to link the MyCiTi bus service with other modes of transport as seamlessly as possible, in an integrated rapid transit system where commuters can use one simple means of payment, on all modes of public transport. This is Transport for Cape Town’s commitment to providing an integrated, affordable and efficient public transport system for all communities across the city," he says.
